ABIGAIL (2024) REVIEW

"Abigail" is a horror thriller that bites off more than it can chew, serving up a wild ride with a child-sized vampire ballerina at its center. Alisha Weir brings some vampy flair to the role, leering and stalking her way through the chaos. With familiar faces like Kevin Durand and Dan Stevens along for the ride, you know you're in for a bloody good time—literally.

From cursing to running around each other in circles, the characters deliver on the sticky material, with plenty of viscous blood splatter and some decent vampire makeup to boot. But while the action scenes are well-choreographed, they're shot like a game of tag played by over-caffeinated toddlers.

Directed by the duo behind "Ready or Not" and the "Scream" reboot, "Abigail" sticks to the script, delivering exactly what the trailer promises: a by-the-numbers horror romp with stock characters and a predictable plot. The team of misfits kidnaps Abigail, but things go awry when she breaks free, leaving them scrambling to survive the night.

With characters named after the Rat Pack and a house straight out of "Clue" with a surprise twist, "Abigail" doesn't take itself too seriously. But while the cast does their best with the material, it's hard to care about characters who feel more like cardboard cutouts than real people.

Despite its uninspired dialogue and predictable plot, "Abigail" might still find its audience among B-movie aficionados looking for a budget-friendly thrill. Just don't expect more than what's advertised, unless you're counting on a few laughs and a lot of blood.
